Improving the Quality of Healthcare Services in Ressource Poor Settings

    

 

Besonders die Motivation der einzelnen Menschen in einem Gesundheitssystem ist entscheidend für dessen Funktionalität. Die Kursteilnehmer lernen Standards und Richtlinien für Gesundheitsdienste zu definieren und entwickeln ihre Fähigkeit weiter, Teams zur Umsetzung dieser Vorgaben anzuleiten.

Focusing on practical tools and methods, this course provides participants with skills to improve healthcare services in low and middle income countries. It will assist participants to adapt these to national and local settings with a special emphasis on managing and motivating people.

The course includes the following topics:

  • Overview of quality terminology and concepts
  • Health sector reforms with an emphasis on linkages between quality improvement and reforms in healthcare organisation systems & structures, policies & planning, and contracting & financing
  • Developing and implementing standards, guidelines and indicators in a healthcare service
  • Designing and implementing quality assessments using audit, accreditation and supervision
  • Personal skills development for managing teams in improving quality
  • Designing and managing quality improvement teams including quality circles, clinical guideline working groups, clinical audit, and quality improvement committees
  • Quality improvement tools such as affinity analysis, flow chart, mind mapping, fish-bone diagram, force-field analysis, prioritisation matrix, Gantt chart, control chart, and radar chart
  • Case studies of quality improvement in low and middle-income countries

Target Group and Prerequisites

Eligible are public health professionals, project planners and managers, paramedical staff, social scientists, tropEd students and others. The course is held in English. Fluency in English (Reading, Speaking, Writing) is required.

3 ECTS (tropEd Master in International Health).
